It sounds strange but it's true. Translationsxxx the first translation company servicing the adult Industry has been chosen as a subject for a study conducted by a professor from the University of Alberta.
Professor Sathya Rao is conducting a research on a personal basis and his planning to write academic papers on Translationsxxx as a case study to publicize his results.
Mr Rao thought that translationsxxx was the perfect target since he was interested in the translation of erotic and pornographic texts. This study comes within a larger reflection on what he calla the erotics of translation, that is the translation of erotic texts (French/English) but also translation conceived as an erotic gesture. Mr Rao says: "As you know, adult sites represent more than half of the resources available on WWWW, yet there are very few academic studies to my knowledge devoted to this matter (the reasons underlying this lack of interest are obvious...), and particularly to that of adult content translation. Clearly, my purpose is not to judge the type of material you are using but to try to remain as objective as possible in analyzing your translation marketing and textual strategies. To put it in more general terms, I am interested in the ways sex is related to language, image and culture in the context of globalization".
Mr. Rao after researching the web found translationsxxx and after a conversation with the Company's owner Moreno " Mo" Aguiari both parties agreed on a collaboration to accomplish Mr.Rao researches. Translationsxxx sent a questionnaire to all the translators working for the company prepared by the UA's professor with 25 questions that helped to outline the translation procedures, techniques and software used.
When MO asked Mr. Rao and opinion about the Adult Industry and the reaction by his colleagues the professor said: " I told some colleagues about this research, they were kind puzzled. But when given further explanation, they quickly understand the point and the originality of the research. Regarding the adult industry I see it as a very interesting yet poorly documented phenomenon that needs to be looked into and debated in the proper way, that is without resorting to value-judgments as it is too often the case".
The result of the study will be publish soon
